Children with special needs face various challenges, difficulties and delays, but just like any kid, they love to play with electronic devices and to interact with mobile applications. Up Syndrome app is a promising opportunity for families with special needs children to take a break from seeing multiple specialists and just enjoy the fun and quality family time bonding with their little ones over fun activities. This app is not just fun and play, it can actually improve your kids' eye-hand coordination, their fine motor skills and communication abilities.
Up Syndrome is built around creating your own sounds, words and melodies and playing with them. This "create-your-own"-tool offers you to record eight audios for each play set. You can name them as you like and you can have as many sets as you chose. Parents can use the knowledge of their own special child's needs, interests and passions and customize personally recorded sets for their child. For example, just sounds for a younger child and only later words to imitate and improve the language abilities.
The app contains three simple objects: a rectangle, a triangle and a circle. Every object includes eight shapes, each indicating different levels of difficulty: the rectangle is the easiest , the triangle is the middle and the circle is the hardest level, since it has the largest background space, which makes it harder to touch the shapes. On each shape page there are two groups of shapes: the upper group that moves clockwise and the lower group that moves anticlockwise.
You have an option to control the speed of the shapes according to your child's level: slow for beginners and faster for more advanced. Each shape comes in a different color to emphasize the difference between them.
Once the shape is touched, the child hears sounds, words or melodies, recorded personally for him, and all the shapes stop moving while the touched shape starts visually vibrating.
All the elements of the menu to manipulate shapes, speed and record options are located on the side of the screen and its size is very small to minimize the chance of the child’s pressing on it.
In general, this app is very user-friendly both for parents and their special needs children.
Up Syndrome app was created with love for special kids and their families. It is free to use, but any donation is appreciated as it will be used to continue our work on more great apps for special kids and their families.
